The Woman Behind The Words
Katie Mannion
Writer. Freelancer. Pop Culture Enthusiast.
Katie Mannion is a St. Louis based writer, mother of one, and recovering people-pleaser. She hopes you won’t hold that against her.
Hi there! I’m Katie – freelance writer, healthcare professional, and aspiring novelist.
I wear many hats, but I consider myself a writer and mother above all else.
To pay the bills, I rely on my work as a healthcare professional. As a Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant, my days are spent helping geriatric residents with their activities of daily living—a rewarding, if challenging, job.
In the evenings, I’m navigating the perilous waters of parenting a pre-teen and wondering if I was ever that much of a handful. (I’ve concluded the answer has to be No.)
And on my days off – or when I’ve got some free time – I write.
What I write varies greatly and somewhat unpredictably depending on the day(sort of like the weather). Tweets, fiction, poetry, freelance articles, personal essays, hot takes. The list goes on.
Lately, though, I’ve been focused primarily on querying my novel and writing freelance pieces.
My Writing Story
It all started when…
OK, this is the cliche part when I talk about how I’ve loved writing since I was a child. Which, to be fair, I did, but I’ll spare you the details and jump forward a bit.
Impact of COVID
As with millions of other American’s, COVID-19 left me unemployed for a time. Without a day job, I had an excess of spare time for the first time in my adult life. After my initial existential crisis, I spent my days working on my first novel, which is now complete.
about the novel
BEAUTIFUL LIARS is a work of women’s fiction about a love triangle in Hollywood. The story that took the public by storm is finally revealed as the narrator interviews those closest to the triad.
Currently Seeking Representation.
Freelance Work
Along with my fiction aspirations, I work as a freelance writer for various online publications.
I’m almost hesitant to admit this part, but you’ve made it this far, so here goes: I didn’t start freelancing until very recently. As in, last year. In all honesty, I didn’t even think about it before then! I was always so focused on writing fiction that I didn’t stop to consider what other type of writing I could do. I’ve quickly come to love it, though.
In terms of topics, I generally focus on writing pieces about pop culture, entertainment, health, wellness, and relationships.
